Tuesday, November 23, 2004Smithsonian Rolls Out American Conflict Web SiteThe Smithsonian National Museum of American History has launched its "Price of Freedom" web site exhibiting detailed multi-media presentations on American military conflicts from the Revolution, to the War on Terror.This is a great information resource especially for those members with children. Tuesday, November 16, 2004Remembrance Day ParadeFor those going to the Remembrance Day Parade in Gettysburg this weekend, we are unaware of any Army of the Ohio units attending at this time. The 5th is invited to fall in with Birney's Division (Cedar Creek).Birney's Division will meet at the staging area at the middle school at 12:15 pm. Monday, November 15, 20045th Ohio Revolver LocatedWe recently received an email from a gentleman who has located a .36 Cal Colt Navy 1851 Revolver with the name of Wm H. Thomas 5th OVI engraved on it. He also has the Boot gun this gentleman carried. Army of the Ohio UpdateThe last Army of the Ohio meeting of 2004 was held in Mansfield, Ohio on 13 NOV. The 5th's Capt Buehrle and 1st Sgt Smith attended. The first order of business was the election of 2005 organization administrators and the the field commander. Last year's team, including Chairman Gary Sprang, were reelected. Our new field commander is Colonel Jim Ruley. Jim brings a great deal of experience as the commander of the 30th Ohio and having directed the battalion on the field in a variety of roles ovr the past few years.Also in the discussion pool was the list of potential events the Army of the Ohio will participate in during the 2005 reenacting season. This list will be discussed at the 5th Ohio monthly meeting on December 9th as we begin to formulate our upcoming schedule. Posted by CL Smith @ 7:02 PM
April 26th: 5th Ohio Unit Drill Day at the Log Cabin in Lodi. We will be doing live firing once again. There is no registration fee, but we do need to know who is coming. You will also need to supply your own powder and projectiles for the live firing. We will more than likely make a small donation since they allow us to use their grounds and range. May 23-25th: 5th Ohio Maximum event - Burton, OH. The registration fee is $8.00 for ALL participants. This is regardless of whether you are 2 or 50. Please have your money to Ken no later than May 1st. May 26th: 5th Ohio Maximum event - Cuyahoga Falls Memorial Day Parade. No fee, but we need to know in advance who is coming. The Fryes have put together a nice recruiting flyer to hand out to the crowd as we move along the route. We are looking for civilian volunteers to follow us and pass them out. July
4-6: 5th Ohio Maximum event - 145th
Gettysburg. The unit registrations have been sent in. You
will need to check online for additional registration.
