Battalion Camp at Hale Farm

I just received an update from Gen Waffler and Hale Farm. Due to the size of our Battalion, Hale Farm is putting us up near the saw mill (click on a picture for a satellite image). This area is within the facility itself but will allow us more room.

I will be on site Friday around 1 pm. We are not to set up prior to the afternoon on Friday due to Hale Farm's insurance requirements. Don Van Meter of the 105th Ohio will also be there to direct you on where to set up.

We will be able to extend our camp into the woods, that will also allow us to forage for wood. However, based on last year, you may want to bring some firewood as a backup if you plan to do a lot of cooking.

DON'T FORGET: The Battalion Pig Roast Saturday night ($6.00 a head). Make sure to email your reservation to fretsnomor238@sbcglobal.net.

Sunday is Western Impression Day. Sack coats and slouch hats if you have them. This is not a requirement.

Looking forward to a big turnout. Please email clsmith@5thohio.com with any questions.

Hale Farm & Village

Greetings Everybody,

Long time no talk. I hope your summer is going well for all of you. My how fast those summer days go by. Pretty soon the kids will be heading back to school, and that means our schedule is winding down for the year. Our next event is this weekend at Hale Farm & Village in the beautiful Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Colonel Smith has not sent out the info on where the Battalion will be camping at yet, but we will keep you informed. The Colonel also has sent out info on what kind of impression we will be doing on Sunday's Battle. The 2nd Battalion will be going Western Theatre for Sunday's Battle. That means Slouch or Hardee's hats, Sack coats, and Packs or Blanket Rolls. Plus, there will be a Pig Roast put on by the members of Birney's Division on Saturday Night. The cost is only $6.00, and all you need to bring is your own drink. To reserve a spot for the dinner please contact Will at fretsnomor238@sbcglobal.net. Also the unit voted on to move our company picnic to September at the Zoar reenactment due to a lot of members and their families not being at Hale this year. Well, that is all I had for you. As more info trickles in I will pass it on to you. I hope to see you all there this weekend. Take Care.

Very Respectfully,
Brian S. Herchek
Captain, Commanding Co. H, 5th Ohio Volunteer Infantry
